Overview
Jalsa by Veda is a culinary venture created by chef and recipe developer Veda Sankaran. Rooted in Indian-inspired cooking, the brand brings together recipes, workshops, catering, and Veda’s Signature Spice Mix in a way that feels personal, flavorful, and approachable.
The Assignment
Jalsa by Veda needed a website that could act as a central hub for the brand’s growing offerings. The goal was to create a cohesive digital experience where visitors could explore recipes, learn more about Veda’s workshops, and shop her Signature Spice Mix, all within one site.
My Role
I designed the website experience across desktop and mobile, focusing on structure, usability, and visual storytelling. The work centered on creating a site that could support multiple parts of the brand while still feeling cohesive, easy to navigate, and true to Veda’s point of view.
Approach
One Brand Hub for Multiple Offerings
The challenge was bringing together recipes, workshops, product sales, service inquiries, and editorial-style content in a digestible way. I approached the site as a central hub for the brand, making sure each part had a place without competing for attention.

Build for Flexibility & Ongoing Growth
Because Veda needed to add recipes, products, and promotions over time, I created a flexible page system that could support frequent updates without breaking the structure or requiring new design work for every addition.

Recipes as an Anchor
Recipes became the foundation of the site because they best captured Veda’s point of view, skill set, and value as a culinary creative. From there, the experience could naturally lead into workshops, services, and product promotion in a way that felt useful and on-brand.
Selected Screens
Homepage
The homepage was designed to introduce the brand through rich imagery, clear navigation, and a structure that quickly leads users into recipes, workshops, and products.
Recipe index
The recipe section was built to make browsing feel inviting and intuitive, giving users an easy way to explore Veda’s catalog of Indian-inspired dishes.
Recipe Detail page
The recipe detail page was designed to make cooking content feel both editorial and usable, with a layout that supports imagery, ingredients, and instructions in a clean format.
Product Detail page
The product page was designed to give the Signature Spice Mix its own clear moment within the site, balancing product information with a straightforward purchase flow.
Mobile experience
The website was designed to be responsive so that culinary students and visitors could follow along on their phone or tablet while cooking in the kitchen or watch one of Veda's workshops fullscreen on desktop without interrupting their experience.

Key Design Decisions
Recipes as the Focal Point
Recipes were used as the anchor of the site, giving the brand a clear center while showcasing Veda’s skill, perspective, and range as a culinary creative.

Clear Site Paths Between Content & Commerce
The site was structured so users could move naturally from recipes into product discovery, workshops, and inquiries without the experience feeling disconnected or overly segmented.

Build the Brand with Bold Food Imagery
Rich, colorful photography played a major role in shaping the visual experience, helping the site feel vibrant, polished, and rooted in Veda’s point of view.
Outcome
The final website created a more unified digital home for Jalsa by Veda, giving the brand a space to share recipes, support workshops, and sell products through one cohesive experience.
